Although there are a variety of infections and vaginal disorders that can change the color, consistency or even amount of your discharge, perhaps the factor that makes the most difference on a regular basis is your menstrual cycle.
Here's what to expect during each cycle:
Beginning of Cycle (Days 1- 12)
After bleeding stops discharge is at a minimum, and milky-white in color. As you approach the middle of your cycle, it will begin to flow more copiously and may look clearer.
Mid-Cycle - ( Days 12 - 14 )
Discharge is abundant and takes on a clear, more liquid appearance, something that causes some women to feel very
"wet" during this time.
After Ovulation (Days 14 - 28 )
Discharge is whiter in appearance and more opaque. Since it contains more cervical mucous it will also be thicker in consistency.
What You Should Know :
* Sometimes discharge that has a very bad odor during your period could be a sign of a V zone infection. If you do experience any unusual or strong odors, or if your discharge takes on a yellow or grey color, bring it to the attention of your doctor.
* Additionally, some women find they develop recurring yeast infections with almost every cycle. If you think this may be true for you, look for a white, "cheesy" discharge beginning after ovulation and disappearing soon after you begin to bleed. And do bring this to the attention of your doctor.
